Music is a unifying factor throughout many people's lives. This underlying thread is something that can connect us all.
ComMusicty is a Girl Scout Gold Award created by Jocelyn Chin. Each week, high school volunteers work with various participants to teach them music. Our mission is to bring people from different backgrounds together through music while shedding light on the underrepresented special needs community.
Often times, people are unaware about the abilities and talents of the special needs community. Through this project, we hope to showcase these abilities and provide an outlet to express creativity. Currently, ComMusicty is partnered with Lifestyles for the Disabled to teach developmentally disabled adults.
We encourage you to reach out to your local non-profits and begin volunteering, start a club or create your own program. Whether it be teaching a friend a new instrument or getting groups together to teach sheet music to special needs students, each deed goes a long way.
